Abstract: This course introduces and overviews the National Incident Management System (NIMS).  NIMS provides a consistent nationwide template to enable all government, private-sector, and nongovernmental organizations to work together during domestic incidents.

Speaker Information: Wayne Hinnant has accrued 30 years of diverse emergency services experience spanning international, federal, state, county, municipal and private sectors. Mr. Hinnant has responded to more than 20 federally declared disasters including hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, wildland fires, biological terrorism incidents, and civil disturbances. His leadership roles have included Operations Section Chief and Incident Commander on several multi-jurisdiction and multi-discipline incident management teams.

 

Contact Hours: 1 Contact Hour will be awarded to: MD, DO, Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse.

Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the intent of the National Incident Management System (NIMS).
  2. Describe the key concepts and principles underlying NIMS.
  3. Describe the purpose of the NIMS components including:
         *Preparedness
         *Communications and Information Management
         *Resource Management
         *Command and Management
  4. Describe the purpose of the National Integration Center (NIC).
